Education Minister Lulus Sejarah Paper?

MCA: It was a multi-racial effort that won independence

PETALING JAYA: The country’s independence was forged through the close cooperation of leaders of the Alliance party and was not the sole effort of Umno, said MCA central committee member Lee Wei Kiat.

He pointed out that it was the leaders of MCA, Umno and MIC in the Alliance, which preceded Barisan Nasional before Merdeka, who were all influential in negotiating with the British for independence.

“MCA will not allow efforts from any party in trying to rewrite facts of history or denying the efforts of the other races in helping to fight for the country’s independence 52 years ago,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Lee was commenting on Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein’s statement at the party general assembly that the process of independence and later developments were forged by “Umno and our Malay Rulers and no one else”.

Lee said: “If we look back at history in 1954, Tunku Abdul Rahman led a three-man Alliance delegation comprising himself, Tun Abdul Razak and Tan Sri T.H. Tan from the MCA to England to hold talks with the colonial authority.”

He said that Tunku Abdul Rahman also led an Alliance delegation to London to hold independence talks with the British with MCA represented by Tun H.S. Lee and Tan.

Lee, who is MCA information and communications bureau chairman, said the negotiations led to mutual consent for a draft constitution.

“We hope that Hishammuddin’s remarks are not aimed at gaining political mileage for himself after winning the Umno vice-presidency on March 26,” Lee said.

He urged the minister to show that he was a leader of all Malaysians and not just an Umno leader.

“Any deviation in history will not only affect the country’s harmony currently enjoyed by the various races but also hinder the government’s efforts in fostering racial unity between different ethnic groups,” he said.

He said Malaysian children must understand clearly that all races had to be equally recognised for their efforts and contributions to the country’s development. --- The Star

Revise your Malaysian History: -

Chinese reaction against the MCP was shown by the formation of the Malayan Chinese Association (MCA) in 1949 as a vehicle for moderate Chinese political opinion. Its leader, Tan Cheng Lock, favoured a policy of collaboration with UMNO to win Malayan independence on a policy of equal citizenship, but with sufficient concessions to Malay sensitivities to ease nationalist fears. Tan formed a close collaboration with Tunku (Prince) Abdul Rahman, the Chief Minister of Kedah and from 1951 successor to Datuk Onn as leader of UMNO. Since the British had announced in 1949 that Malaya would soon become independent whether the Malayans liked it or not, both leaders were determined to forge an agreement their communities could live with as a basis for a stable independent state. The UMNO-MCA Alliance (which was later joined by the Malayan Indian Congress (MIC)), won convincing victories in local and state elections in both Malay and Chinese areas between 1952 and 1955. --- History of Malaysia

Blog Pro Pakatan VS Blog Pro Kerajaan

“Hei, macam mana dia tak serang kita macam tu? Dah kita ada yang hina dia.”
Terbaru YB. Drs.

(Before the incident of 'Kill Nizar' , do you still remember Nizar shouted 'Kill BN' like samseng? He used Cantonese 'Dui Lum Kok Zhen' which is the same meaning as 'Kill BN' . Also, he said ' to fight till his last drop of blood ' during his public speech when the power grab in Perak. )

--- By SM

Remember The Night Of 308

A warm and touching video clip by Pakatan Rakyat. This time, there do not have scene of clashes with police violenece, there is no insult from public or to the opponent leader. A good concept of political marketing network is an excellent strategy to get a better result for the up coming by-election.

An Anti Earth Hour Group

AN anti-Earth Hour group urging Australians to keep their lights blazing this weekend is a sign of waning interest in environmentalism, experts say.

The global Earth Hour movement – founded in Australia in 2007 – is asking people to switch off their lights for one hour on Saturday night.

But a Facebook group is urging people to "keep every light you own running during Earth Hour".

The group urges people to protest by switching lights on "if you think turning the lights out for an hour is completely ridiculous and will change nothing".

"Or if you just think people who really believe global warming is a giant threat are dumb, join this group to keep every light you own running during Earth Hour."

Group member Alexander Woodhouse says: "The Earth Hour makes people feel like they've done their share and makes them sleep better... that's nice for them but it doesn't really help the earth."

Another member wrote: "I don't believe the vast majority of those participating have given it enough thought to get to that point. ‘It's helping! I don't know how, but it's helping! I'm helping! I don't have to do anything else because I'm doing this now! Go me!'"

Growing trend

Australians have been losing interest in environmentalism for years, says social analyst David Chalke, who leads the annual AustraliaSCAN survey, a cultural change monitor established in 1992.

"Absolutely the GFC (global financial crisis) has accelerated a decline in interest in environmentalism that was already going on,” Mr Chalke said. "Environmentalism has been in decline among the Australian public for the last five or six years.

"The notion that we’re all becoming more environmentally concerned is not true. We get concerned occasionally when (global warming activist) Tim Flannery tells us we’re all going to die – but it’s not a genuine fundamental shift in values.

"The impending recession has focussed people’s minds and priorities and clearly they are much more focussed of my job, my family, my house, rather than the more distant and esoteric idea of climate change. The attitude is: if the climate changes we’ll live with it."

Candlelight

Earth Hour will see lights go out in 82 countries and more than 2400 towns between 8.30pm and 9.30pm (local time) tomorrow night. Organisers hope one billion people will switch off.

But practical measures – like demand for candles - suggest interest in the initiative has dipped this year.

Last year, nearly 10,000 candles were ordered by a Caulfield candle business in Melbourne to cope with the demand during Earth Hour, but shop owner Roy Merrington said demand had dropped markedly, The Age reported.

"I would like to think we would do the same (trade), but we will probably do half that," Mr Merrington said.

"People's attention is elsewhere … the conversation about the health of the planet is on the back burner, because people are paranoid about money — and quite rightly."

Symbolic

Dr Stephen Healy – associated with Centre For Energy and Environmental Markets at the University of New South Wales- said events like Earth Hour did raise awareness, but did not give people real opportunities to create change.

"I’m worried it’s (Earth Hour) just symbolic and doesn’t go much beyond that," Dr Healy said.

"It’s very difficult for people to make changes."

Climate change would not be arrested until governments and corporations got on board, he said.

Earth Hour’s global executive director Andrew Ridley said despite the tough economic times, it was still important to talk about the issue of climate change.

Awareness

"Climate change is something historically people think it’s too big and ‘what can we do about it?’," he said.

"We all have to be accountable to fix it."

But he also admitted Earth Hour was a symbolic gesture that would not achieve big real reductions.

"It’s symbolic. It’s for one hour, one day in a year for people around the world to work together to help deal with climate change.

"We’re at a stage where a sense of unity is really, really important.

"People need to know that a person in Brazil knows that a person in China feels the same thing." --- (Source: News.com.au)

Shahrizat is new Wanita Umno chief

PUTRA WORLD TRADE CENTRE, Wed: Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil trounced Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz tonight to win the hotly contested Wanita Umno chief's post, polling 507 votes against the loser's 280 votes.

This defeat for Rafidah, 66, may be the closing chapter to an illstrious political career. Shahrizat, 56, was her deputy for many years.

Rafidah is still MP for Kuala Kangsar but was not reappointed as a Cabinet Minister after the March 8 general election last year. Shahrizat, who lost her Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat, was made a Special Adviser to the Prime Minister for Women and Social Development Affairs by the PM. ---NST

Auction Under The Tree

Auctioning of five pieces of broken democracy tree plaque by
Pakatan Rakyat.

RM61,000 raised at auction of broken pieces of 'democracy plaque'
Humayun Kabir

IPOH (March 22, 2009) :
Five broken pieces of the plaque erected at the Perak Pakatan Rakyat (PR) democracy tree were today auctioned off for a total of RM42,900 within an hour.

The biggest piece fetched the highest bid of RM17,100 while the lowest bid was RM5,200 for another piece.

When bidding started for the first piece at RM500, 11 bidders raised the price to RM6,800, bid by Ipoh businessman Khor Lian Sing, 45.

The second piece went to another businessman, D. Richard Jairaj, 67, who offered RM5,200 after three others made their bids.

The third piece with an opening price of RM5,000 attracted four bidders, with petroleum products businessman Lee Chee Seng, 55, offering RM6,800.

There were 14 bids for the fourth piece which retired teacher, C.B.Ang, 62, clinched with an offer of RM7,000.

Frankie Wong from the DAP who acted as auctioneer, opened bidding for the biggest and last piece at RM4,000, and after 19 bids, the item was sold for RM17,100 to a businessman who only identified himself as Lee.

Several hundred people were present for the auction near the tree behind the state secretariat building at 10am although it was scheduled for 11am.

Pakatan Rakyat's Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin officiated the auction, held in the presence of police and Special Branch

Later, DAP Taiping MB Ngah Kor Ming told the media a total of RM61,000 was collected from the auction as well as from donations from people in the wet markets on the city limits.

He said some of the money will be used for another plaque and PR will discuss its placement with Ipoh City Council.

The balance of the funds collected will be placed in a legal fund for PR. (Source: The Sun Daily)

I'm just wondering is this a legal action for having an auction under the tree? It just sounds very bad and sadly to have the auction for 'Broken pieces of Democracy Plaque'. Our DEMOCRACY is already broken. Then, you still want to bid it ! ! Those businessman want to keep the broken pieces in their house, office... as a souvenirs. There are marbles! Broken pieces of marbles! Keep it for what!

You knew that, once you build the plaque without approval by MBI, one day, the MBI its gonna removed it . Thus, why you still want to waste money for re-building another plaque? The motives are simple... aroused the attenction from the people, raised anger among the people to the government... and the most important thing is they fear that people are going to forget them. It is no need to do such things where people now is awake and the civic awareness is strong enough. Stop praying to the tree where most of the roadsides in Ipoh state are planted by this kind of tree! Stop wasting money for re-build a plaque where you know it just a symbolize. We don't want symbol anymore. We want something that is more realistic, useful, durable and effective.

PR, move forward for the people's democratic. Not the marble or a tree, please.

Australia's First Elected Female Premier

QUEEN OF QUEENSLAND: Anna Bligh after her win in the tally room.

Glenn Milne

March 21, 2009 04:00pm

LABOR'S Anna Bligh has made history in the Queensland election by becoming Australia's first elected female Premier.

She managed to withstand a four percent swing against the LNP’s Lawrence Springborg.

With 66% of the vote counted Labor had won 51 seats, the LNP 30 with others taking four. The ALP, only needed 45 for victory. In the end, despite published polls showing a knife-end outcome Mr Springborg fell well short of expectations.

The newly formed Liberal National Party needed a swing of 8.4 per cent to win power in its own right. Going into the vote yesterday, Natioanal Party strategists were hoping for at least a hung Parliament.

The ABC's election computer is predicting Labor will win 54 seats, with the LNP taking 32 and other parties ultimately winning only three.

Ms Bligh, 48, succeeded where Victoria Joan Kirner and West Australia's Carmen Lawrence failed giving Labor its fifth successive election victory.

Both Ms Kirner and Ms Lawrence inherited the top job in their state -- as did Ms Bligh when former premier Peter Beattie quit politics in September 2007 -- but they lost at their first election.

Ms Bligh took the Labor Party on her back from the moment she called an early election on February 23 and carried them to victory.

The entire Labor campaign focussed on their popular leader -- and not a government considered incompetent by many voters. While the LNP led in almost every pre-election poll, Ms Bligh's popularity continued to increase over her rival Lawrence Springborg.

That translated to the polling booths yesterday with the majority of Queensland's 2.7 million voters supporting Ms Bligh, not necessarily Labor. She went to the electorate pleading for a mandate on jobs security and stability during the current global financial crisis.

The fact that voters stuck to the incumbent in troubled ties will hearten Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and further rattle the Federal Coalition under Malcolm Turnbull.

Voters stood by the Premier and turned its back on LNP plans to wipe $1 billion from Budget, which threatened more than 12,000 public service jobs. Mr Springborg's third election defeat meant he was almost certainly facing an early exit as LNP leader.

The LNP leader conceded formally conceded shortly before 8:30 pm Queensland time congratulating Ms Bligh on her victory. He said he recognised his days as Oppostion leader were now numbered.

It was now time, he said, to depart the job and spend more time with his children.

The LNP failed to make big inroads in Brisbane where Labor held 34 seats in the greater metropolitan area, compared to only one notional seat to for the LNP – Clayfield – after the most recent redistribution.

Exit polls were predicting Premier Anna Bligh's Government would retain control of the state despite the swing against it. (Source: News.com.au)

Najib To Be 6th PM on April 3

No Change of Plans, Najib To Be 6th PM on April 3

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 — Despite roiling speculation and the agitation of Pakatan Rakyat, the plans to swear in Datuk Seri Najib Razak as Malaysia’s sixth prime minister on April 3 remain unchanged.

Yesterday, tongues were wagging and the rumour mill went into overdrive after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi did not bid farewell to the Cabinet.

He also did not announce the handover date during the weekly meeting.

A report by a news website had raised expectations that the transition date would be made public yesterday.

When Abdullah did not thank the ministers for their support and announce formally that he would be stepping down in favour of Najib, it set off a firestorm of speculation.

In recent days, remarks by a number of personalities had ignited speculation that Abdullah may not hand over power as planned.

This week, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, who was sacked by Umno and is gaining traction among opposition supporters as a reformist, had made an impassioned plea for the King to consider not swearing in Najib as the new PM.

There has been talk among some opposition leaders about the possibility of forming a unity government.

PR leaders have also stepped up their attacks against Najib by constantly linking him with the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder.

Several ministers, who spoke to reporters after chairing post-Cabinet meetings yesterday, also added fuel to the fire.

Within a short while, the rumour had gained an air of authority but informed sources told The Malaysian Insider that plans for Abdullah to hand over power to Najib on April 3 remain unchanged.

The PM was never scheduled to bid farewell to the Cabinet yesterday — the last meeting before the Umno general assembly.

He is set to chair his final Cabinet meeting on April 1.

By then, his officials would have completed their tour of duty and cleared out their offices. (Source: The Malaysian Insider)

Is Malaysia ready for the new Prime Minister? We can see that Najib doing many things just for preparing himself as a next to be PM. But is he the right man? Are we ready for the Najib's Dynasty? There are 14 days to go... some said, 14 days consider a long time in politic. Is our current PM be prepared for his retirement life ? Maybe we will found that there are going to have 2 similar blogs contribute by our former PM. It's just like Chedet.

Moreton Bay, Queensland

Moreton Bay is a large bay on the eastern coast of Australia 19 km from Brisbane, Queensland. The waters of Moreton Bay are a popular destination for recreational anglers and are used by commercial operators who provide seafood to market.

These two pictures are given to me by Soba. Seng, Henry and Soba went to Moreton Bay in 2007. Every year, our university organizes a trip to Tangalooma Island in Moreton Bay. I missed out the two chances when i was in my overseas uni life.

As a first year student, i'm quite worry about the fees so i did not join those 'high expenditure' trip. I heard that there are many attractions and activities you can do in Tangalooma. For example, kayaking, snorkeling , watch and feed wild dolphin (my favourite) , sand tobogganing, quad bike tour... Some of the activities are free or included in the package but you still have to pay for most of the activities. Otherwise, it is nothing to do by sitting on the beach.

For the second time i heard there is a Tangalooma trip organized by univeristy was during the orientation week in 2007. They said all mentors can get an offer from student service. It was a good chance to me because i already joint the international mentor program. However, at that time i have to prepared myself for the backpak with kimkim. Ends up, I can only view the beatiful scenery through pictures that caputred by my friends who have been to Moreton Bay.

Today, I am quite depressed to heard this news... Oil Spill: QLD beaches declared disaster zones. Worry about those dolphins and marines life. The oil affected area is basically where they live.

A container pierced the Pacific Adventurer's hull in rough seas on Wednesday, causing the leak which has spread to 60 kilometres of Queensland's coastline.

Moreton and Bribie Island and southern parts of the Sunshine Coast have been declared disaster zones.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has declared Moreton Island, Bribie Island and southern parts of the Sunshine Coast disaster zones after a massive oil spill.

Sixty kilometres of coastline is covered in the slick, which came from the Pacific Adventurer after it was damaged earlier this week in rough seas whipped up by cyclone Hamish.

Up to 100,000 litres of heavy fuel oil leaked into the ocean from the cargo ship. ... (Source: ABC News)

Everthing is Chargeable For Low-Cost Airlines

Nagging Wife For Sale

A British man fed up with his wife's complaints advertised her for sale - and got a number of offers.

"Nagging Wife. No Tax, No MOT. Very high maintenance - some rust," wrote Gary Bates, 38, in a small ad in Trade-It, more usually used to buy and sell cars or household goods.

Bates, a self-employed builder from Gloucestershire, southwest England, snapped after his wife Donna got on his nerves while she was watching television and he decided to place the ad as a joke.

"She was nagging me for doing something small, while she was watching some rubbish on TV. So I just thought I'd put an ad in to get rid of her.

"I didn't think anyone would ring up but I've had at least nine or 10 people calling about her. It's gone mad. There was no one I knew - just people asking, 'Is she still available?"'

The couple married only last year, and Bates said his 40-year-old wife - whom he advertised in the magazine's Free to Collect section, along with some of his fishing tackle - initially gave him "a bit of an ear-bashing".

But he said: "She's seen the funny side of it now, though!"

What kind of world is this?! The husband offers nagging wife on Classified ad. He said it is just a joke and his wife still think that is funny after seeing the ad. Is this couple abnormal ? In other words, if the husband is nagging, or you dislike his bad habit such as drinking, smoking ... is the wife going to sell him out too? I just can't imagine if this thing happen in Malaysia. Besides, if a wife placing an ad for selling her husband, what do people think? Crazy !!

Summary of 2nd Stimulus Package

Post up the summary of mini budget which announced on 10 March from the deputy prime mister also finance mister, Dato' Seri Najib Razak's blog. Meanwhile, i could not see any direct effect which helps reduce individual from suffering in the economic crisis through this mini budget. It looks like nothing to do with you if you are not going to buy a new house or getting a new car. People may think they can have a reduction in income tax or reduction of housing loan interest for all (old or new buyer)... However, there are not included in this 2nd launched mini budget.

The only thing that i can benefit from this budget is by enroll in the local-U or other 4 college which is stated on list, by taking up a Master or Profesor Degree Course. After deduction of the scholarship provided by government, i still need to think about where to get a lump sum for my 2 to 3 years school fees and living fees. There is a same problem goes to the RM5000 rebate for people who sells out an old car (above 10 years old) and buy a new Proton or Perodua. For those who just finish paying car loan, are you going to get yourself into a debtor again? If people own an old car and he has enough cashflow for car purchasing, it may be benefited. Otherwise, those who don't have money to buy a car or worried about their car loan, they still suffer in pain. Hence, most of the individual can 'see' the money going out from this RM60 billion mini budget, but we are not really get involved and using it. Expert said this is a long term stimulus package where you can't see the effect shortly. Okay, we just look forward and see how the thing is going on.

• The Mini Budget of RM60 billion, the biggest ever stimulus package unveiled by the government, accounting for 9 per cent of the GNP will be implemented over two years – 2009 and 2010.
• Of the total:

1. RM15 billion is fiscal injection,
2. RM25 billion guaranteed fund
3. RM10 billion equity
4. RM7 billion PFI and Off-budget
5. RM3 billion in tax incentives

• This is in addition to the RM7 billion first stimulus package announced on Nov 4, 2008 and the RM206 billion budgeted for 2009.
• The Mini Budget or the second stimulus package has been necessitated by the worsening of the global economy. The IMF has revised its forecast for the world economy downwards from 2.2 per cent to 0.5 per cent for 2009.
• Many countries are already in recession. The US is forecast to register negative 1.6 per cent growth this year; UK negative 2.8 per cent; Japan negative 2.6 per cent.
• South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore are already in recession and the forecast for this year is negative – South Korea (-4 per cent), Taiwan (-4 per cent) and Singapore (-4.9 per cent). Singapore’s Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew is reported that the island state’s economy could record a -10 per cent.
• India and China, will see their growth moderate to 6.7 per cent and 5.1 per cent respectively – positive growth but considerably slower.
• Malaysia’s growth in 2009 will be between -1 per cent to positive 1 per cent. This is down from the 3.5 per cent forecast earlier which is not sustainable due to the deteriorating global economy.

• Four factors contribute to the slower growth:
1.Malaysia’s open and trade dependent economy affected by the decline in global demand. In January, for example, exports fell 27.8 per cent.(Malaysia highly trade dependent trade as ration to GDP to the tune of 200 per cent)
2.Commodity prices declined sharply especially oil and gas and palm oil.
3.Foreign Drect investment (FDI) flows expected to decline by almost 50 per cent – RM26 billion in 2009 against RM51 billion in 2008, and
4.Fall in the stock market which has a negative impact on the services sector and adversely affects consumer and investor sentiments.

• With the increased stimulus package, the budget deficit will rise to 7.6 per cent in 2009, an increase from 4.8 per cent. It is still lower than the high of 16 per cent recorded in 1982. High liquidity in the domestic market will help finance the deficit and it will not crowd out the private sector.

• Four main budget strategies:
1.Reduce unemployment and increase job opportunities (RM2 billion allocation from the RM60 billion)
2.Reduce the rakyat’s burden and impact on the vulnerable (RM10 billion)
3.Assist the private sector (RM29 billion), and
4.Build capacity for future growth (RM19 billion)

• Implementing the strategies:-
-163,000 training and job opportunities in both public and private sector. Training programmes to be implemented by government agencies, the private sector including GLCs and private training institutions.
-Eight different training programmes have been identified.
-Tax exempt for companies that employ workers who have been retrenched including those whose services were terminated via VSS
-Government to recruit 63,000 employees and contract workers
-Opportunities for higher education with financial assistance
-Reducing dependence on foreign labour

• Reducing the rakyat’s burden and impact on the vulnerable:
-Government committed to eradicating hard core poverty by 2010.
-Government subsidy totals RM34.1 billion or 22 per cent of operating expenditure in 2008. Of this RM18.1 billion is oil subsidy, RM6 billion in the form of assistance for students, the vulnerable and poor, RM3 billion in food subsidy and RM7 billion other forms of assistance.
-Government allocated RM674 million in subsidy to check price increase of essential food items, e.g. bread, sugar and flour and another RM480 million to prevent a hike in toll rates.
-Without government subsidy sugar price would be higher by 47 sen a kilo; flour 60 sen a kilo higher and bread 26 sen higher for a 400 gramme loaf.
-Government set aside RM27.9 billion in 2009 for various subsidies.
-Assist house buyers with tax relief on interest payment
-Improving public infrastructure
-Enhancing and improving education facilities, including the national, Chinese, Tamil and mission schools
-Micro credit facilities for fishermen and farmers
-RM5 billion savings bond (syariah based) with 5 per cent return a year, payable every quarter. Minimum investment of RM5,000 and maximum of RM50,000.

• Assisting private sector in facing the crisis:
-RM5 billion fund for working capital guaranteed by government
-Fund to assist companies to restructure and promote green technology
-Easier access to capital market – SC to reduce time-to-market and assist companies to raise funds more efficiently and cost effectively. SC to introduce six different measures for this purpose.
-Reducing cost of doing business
-Attracting High Net Worth individuals and professionals
-Support for the automotive and aviation industries and boost for tourism industry.

• Building capacity for future growth:
-RM5 billion restructuring fund – Government guarantee for those companies who embark to increase their productivity, high value added and application of green technology. Maximum loan of RM50 million over 10 years.
-Additional RM10 billion available to Khazanah for investments over two years in domestic industries with high impact and to generate new employment
-Off budget projects valued at RM5 billion identified including LCCT at KLIA, Penang Airport expansion, High Speed broadband and covered walkway in golden triangle.
-PFI: The government to assist private sector and provide the “tipping point” for private sector initiative.
-Liberalising services sector to attract more investments, expertise and strengthen competitiveness of the sector which currently accounts for 55 per cent of GNP and has potential to increase contribution to 70 per cent as in developed nations.
-FIC to adopt more liberal approach to attract more foreign investments. Government working on new guidelines for FIC.
-Strengthen and stress on “value for money” in government procurement. ePerolehan to be encouraged to enhance transparency in management of government procurement

• Conclusion:
-Comprehensive strategies and measures in the package
-Cannot rely on orthodox policies. Government committed to innovative policies to deal with global crisis.
-Malaysia’s banking and financial sector is strong and not affected by the global financial crisis and therefore able to support and finance the stimulus package.
-Lessons learnt from the 1997-1998 crisis strengthened the corporate sector which is in a better and stronger position to face the crisis.
-It will be a deep and prolonged global recession. All must join forces – including those across the aisle and the private sector – to put the nation on a stronger economic footing.

Apple iPhone 3G From Maxis

Apple iPhone 3G now launched in Malaysia ! Maxis comes out 3 plans which cover 6 , 12 and 24 months plan. As usual, a longest term of contract that you sign, a better deal that you have.

24 month contract

12 month contract

6 month contract

However, I don't have any product from Apple. I'm still using my poor Nokia. The iPhone 3G plan in Malaysia looks like quite expensive compare with foreign country. Economic crisis... i have to think about how to save money before i can look into this new plan.

Google blocks UK from YouTube music videos

Google is blocking UK access to music videos on YouTube because of a licensing row with the Performing Rights Society (PRS).

According to Google, licensing negotiations for the UK stalled because of "prohibitive licensing fees" and a "lack of transparency".

Google described the move as a "painful decision", but said the PRS had ramped up the cost of licensing and was unwilling to disclose what songs were included in the proposed deal.

Patrick Walker, EMEA director of video partnerships at Google, said the company would block music videos in the UK until mutually acceptable terms were reached.

The PRS said it was "outraged on behalf of consumers and songwriters" by Google's action.

"This action has been taken without any consultation with PRS and in the middle of negotiations between the two parties," the royalty collection group said in a statement.

PRS has called on Google to reconsider the decision as a matter of urgency.

Steve Porter, chief executive at PRS, said, "[Google's action] only punishes British consumers and the songwriters, whose interests we protect and represent."

Twitter hit by porno spammers

Spammers have created 750 accounts on Twitter which are being used to lure users to websites containing explicit sexual content.

According to IT security company Sophos, the messages, which are being spammed out as Tweets, resemble the following: "hey! 23/Female. Come chat with me on my webcam thingy here" followed by a link to the Chatwebcamfree website."

Sophos found that the index page of this website serves up obfuscated JavaScript that loads a variety of pornographic adverts and contains a web form directed to a site called eroticgateway.com.

"If a hacker has managed to ascertain your Twitter password then there is a chance that they may have compromised your system in other ways too," warned Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos.

"We are seeing more and more attacks from spammers, phishers, malware authors, scammers and identity thieves against users of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook - similar adult webcam messages were spotted on Facebook just last month. These are not just proof-of-concept attacks in controlled conditions - they are everyday full-blooded assaults making money out of real people," he said. (Souce: ComputerWeekly.com)

New rape alarm mimics woman's scream

There is a new rape alarm from lla Dusk, designed to sound like a woman's scream. It comes in a range of pretty designs and small enough to attach to your key chain or pop in your clutch bag. My question is , how many female will try and get one? The other thing is, if people heard the scream, do they alert that there is a scream which need your help?

Link to the video : The Guardian's Emine Saner tests the lla Dusk rape alarm in a quite London street.

I am standing in a quiet London street, just off a busy market, and nobody is coming to help me. The personal attack alarm I have set off screeches away into a void of nothingness. Eventually, a man walks past on his mobile phone, glances in my direction and looks annoyed. A pigeon looks slightly alarmed. I could be dead by now, I think. Or maimed. Damn you fellow citizens. "Why didn't you come and see if I was OK?" I ask a stallholder on the market. "We get a lot of kids round here," Roman Sarlowaray says. "I thought it was one of them messing around."

The makers of the new Ila Dusk personal alarm, which goes on sale in Marks & Spencer next month, say that the noise it makes has been "shown to elicit the strongest reaction from passers by". Instead of the usual car-alarm noise, which people find easy to ignore, it is supposed to sound like a woman screaming. Except it doesn't. It sounds a bit like a baby crying, or a wounded animal.

"There is no point using an alarm to attract attention," says Jo Walker, spokeswoman for the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, the personal safety campaign group. "There may not be anyone around to help you. The main purpose of an alarm is to be like 'aural mace'. If you direct the alarm into an attacker's ear, it can make them slightly nauseous or dizzy and disorientated, giving you a few seconds to get away."

What does she think of an alarm which gives off the sound of a woman screaming? "We advise people to try not to scream, because bystanders have no idea how to react. You should shout instructions, such as, 'Call the police!' - it has been proven this has more of an effect."

The reactions I witness range from indifference to annoyance to, in the case of Karen Allen, an English teacher, laughter. Does she carry an alarm? "No. I'd just wallop them with my handbag." (Source: guardian.co.uk )

To Fight For Justice and Democracy

A person named Tian who are from MTU and he is also the blogger of Merdeka Blog uploaded this video on Youtube. He is trying to express his depression on the current politic situation in Malaysia.

Below is his statement on this video called 'To Fight For Justice And Democracy':-

Hi guys, how is it going?

My name is Tian. I am a Malaysian who is so frustrated and so sick to see what has been going on in Malaysia all these years.

The politics of the country is in total chaos! Instead of fighting for a better economy in this hard time, the government just focuses their energy to fight against the will of the citizens!

Basically we have this barbaric government who acts above the laws and the constitution of the country. The democracy in the country is totally ruined because of what the government has been doing to her citizens!

In this country, people are arrested because of them fighting for change. We have seen numerous detentions of the citizens because of them raising up their voices to fight against the incomprehensible, uncivilized actions of the incumbent administration.

There is no respect for democracy in this country. Based on the 2008 human rights report recently released by US Department of State, Malaysia is the top destination in the region for human trafficking. I am not sure if the government is shameful at all of her degrading reputation in this 21st century.

In Malaysia, people have been complaining of the government’s abusing their power for political reasons. For instance, we have seen politicians, journalists, internet bloggers, civil rights activists being arrested and detained under the so called Internal Security Act that allows the government to detain someone without trial indefinitely. The detainment has been widely known to be political motivated to stop the opposition voices.

Not only that, there has been serious doubt on the independence and fairness of police, judicial and even anti-corruption system of the country.

Also, the freedom of speech, freedom of peaceful assembly, and freedom of press has been taken away from the people.

And very recently the central government overturned the opposition party’s control of a state government through the widely alleged bribery of the state representatives in which the bribery accusation involved millions and millions of dollars. Come on, every country in the world is fighting to save her economy, but we have this government right here in Malaysia who used the tax payers’ money for a shameful and undemocratic seize power action! The citizens have been calling for a fresh election so to elect the party they want to rule the state, but the central government just doesn’t allow it!

And worst of all, this country is going to have someone who was accused of numerous corruption, including a murder case, to be the next prime minister of the country in this coming April.

Can you believe that?

In short, Malaysia has become one of the most corrupted and undemocratic government in the world!

Thankfully, we are going to have three by-elections in April because of the deaths and resignation of the state representatives.

People, no matter where you are, who you are, if you have anything to tell this undemocratic administration, if you have anything to tell her citizens, please send me your video response, I will compile them into one video by the end of the month, and show to the whole world of what you and I can do to change Malaysia to make it a better place to live in!

If you want to know more about how dirty Malaysian government is, just go to the youtube and type in “Malaysia Politics”, there are tons of videos there that can witness what I said is true.

Thank you for listening! Here is my email (ting@mtu.edu). I look forward to receiving your video response.

Once School System For All?

Is it at all possible to have a single secular school system?
One school system for all...a myth?

Many believe that the Malaysian dual education system will
need to be re-looked at.

Some parents quietly feel that the dual school system contributes to racial polarisation as stereotyping is re-enforced when children of the same race dominate a school, especially at a young and impressionable age.

Woman does a ‘Sufiah’ via Internet

A MALAY woman in her 20s, has taken a leaf from Sufiah Yusof, the maths genius turned social escort.

She is offering sexual services through the Internet for RM50 to RM150 around Klang Valley, reported Kosmo!

Anna (not her real name) said she was a beautiful and sexy single woman from the east coast of peninsular Malaysia.

She posted seven photographs on her blog promoting herself and her “services”. Two of the pictures showed her nude.

Anna claimed she graduated from a local university and has seduced her lecturer in the past to pass exams.

The lecturer was in fact her “sugar daddy” and even paid for her plastic surgery.

Other details stated in her blog include her full name, MyKad number, age, address and employment history.

When Kosmo! tried to contact Anna through her cell phone, she questioned why they were calling her and told them not to disturb her before switching off phone.

Well, is this become a trend for young lady to sells their body or 'service' via internet? Or some are just the followers of Sufiah Yusof, the maths genius? However, that is their freedom ?
