Boycott for what?

Contents below is copy from Che Det, the blog host by Ex- Prime Minister , Dr. Mahathir Mohamed. I just could not believe that he is so eager to ask for boycott. Does he really care about the concurrent impact through our economy and society ??? Most of the franchisee of US products are local. People won't die because of not drinking coca-cola but we are facing economy recession for doing so. We need foreign investor, what if those US investor leave and most of the big company or factory close up due to the boycott action by Malaysian ? Who is going to support those unemployed ? Is Dr. Mahathir is going to bay of the lost and the living cost of those people? You may think that i am so money minded . I also care about human life. I hope everyone can live in a peaceful world. But don't you think boycott won't help for returning peace? There will contribute more dispute among people. Then why should we get ourself involve of the unnecessary dispute? For pursueing peace, there are many ways for negotiate, aren't they ? Other than that, is he going to guarantee that boycott won't causes any angry mood among local and foreigner or among people who boycott and anti-boycott? Inherently, what is the different of fire in Gaza and boycott? It is just simly a voilence sweeps the innocent !!

Loses of credibility when the one who asked for boycott still using Moveable Type which is US product to host his blog. Besides, he may not use Windows or Internet for blogging or browsing websites, there are also created by US ! Thus, boycott for what?

1. I would like to have the Malaysian Armed Forces attack the United States and Israel.

2. But I don't think the Government and the MAF would agree with me.

3. So what do we do?

4. We could blockade the United States and deny it food and medicine.

5. The blockade would have to go on for a hundred years. A lot of innocent people would die. But as Madeleine Albright said when asked whether killing 500,000 Iraqi babies was worth it, she said it was difficult but it was worth it. So Malaysians should not mind killing a few million Americans including babies because although it will be difficult it would be worth it.

6. But I suspect we cannot blockade either.

7. So what do we do? Let the bully do what it likes? But the bully is killing lots of innocent people together with small children and babies.

8. But on the other hand we need to drink Coca-Cola, use the Internet, fly Boeing jets, see Rambo movies etc etc. Can we sacrifice all these simply because babies are being decapitated by Israeli soldiers using highly sophisticated and costly weapons donated by the kind Americans? Of course we cannot.

9. What we can do is totally worthless. We can boycott US products.

10. But can we? Well not completely. Maybe partially. Like not drinking Coca-Cola, or not seeing the latest blockbuster.

11. It is not going to stop the United States from remaining the most powerful nation and continuing to kill people directly or indirectly.

12. But if 10 per cent of the people in the world who drink Coca-Cola stop drinking it there would be some impact. If Malaysians drink, say 50 per cent less Coca-Cola (because their lives depend on it) there would be some impact also. If nothing else it will demonstrate our displeasure with the Americans.

13. But what about the Malaysians working in factories producing coke? I don't believe they produce only Coca-Cola. They produce other drinks as well. If people switch from Coca-Cola to another drink produced by the same company, then the company will have to produce more of this alternative drink and there would be no need to close down and sack the workers.

14. The idea is to do what we can to show displeasure at what the US is doing. We will not bring the US economy crashing down. It will continue to prosper. But the US and Americans must know how much the world dislike or even hate them.

15. Presently the President of the United States claims "the world respects America for its compassion".

16. I am appending below an article by Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration.

17. Please read it carefully since you may think as a Muslim I am biased against the United States and Israel.

18. I will be putting on my blog other articles by other people and you can judge for yourselves.

Is boycott a good way ?

Coca-Cola says Malaysia boycott will hurt economy

Coca-Cola spoke out Friday against a boycott of its drinks and other US goods called by Malaysian Muslim groups over the Gaza offensive, saying it would only hurt the local economy and citizens.

"As everybody else, we are deeply touched by the human side of the situation in the Middle East," Kadri Taib, Coca-Cola Malaysia public affairs and communications director, said in a statement.

"Given the local nature of our business, we believe that calls for boycotts of our products are not the appropriate way to further any causes, as they primarily hurt the local economy, local businesses and local citizens."

It said the beverage company employs some 1,700 Malaysians, 60 percent of whom are Malay Muslims, who dominate the multicultural nation's population.

A boycott of US-made goods and firms including Coca-Cola and Starbucks has been called by Muslim groups who are planning a protest Friday at the National Mosque in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

The boycott, aimed at US support of Israel which has mounted the offensive in Gaza, is spearheaded by the Malaysian Islamic Consumers Association as well as the Muslim Restaurant Operators Association which has removed Coca-Cola from the menu at thousands of eateries.

"We hope the Muslim consumers will fully take part so it will send a clear signal to Israel and its allies not to continue to torture Muslims," the Consumers Association said in a statement.

Former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad has also called for a global boycott of the US dollar and US products in protest over Washington's support of Israel.

Last year, some people from China tried to boycott French products . Those protesters use lorries to block access to one of the outlet of the French Carrefour in China. Later on, some folks wonder, what is the difference between boycott French goods and boycott the Olympics? Both are the stupidest way. Now, Malaysia started the stupid boycott actions. Then, people should not use Coldgate? don't eat McDonald? don't go to Starbucks? What are the impact to the economy in our country after this? Our people will die because of this stupid 'boycott war' !

Say No To Killing in GAZA

195 children have been killed in Israel's war on Gaza: medics

Mehr News Agency) - So far 195 children have been in the Israeli blitz on the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical officials say. Gaza health officials say that since the onslaught began on Dec. 27 more than 550 Palestinians have been killed and 2,500 wounded.

Televised images of wounded and murdered civilians, especially children, have caused outrage across the world, especially the Islamic world.

Eleven members of one family, including five children, were killed in a northern Gaza City neighborhood early Monday morning after Israeli soldiers ordered them to leave their home, medical officials said.

Civilian deaths are likely to rise as the Israeli forces move in on the narrow city streets and refugee camp alleys.

"Usually you have people trying to flee the area of conflict," said John Ging, the head of the United Nations refugee agency in the Gaza Strip. "But they don't have this choice in Gaza because they are trapped in a very, very densely populated area."

Backed by the U.S., the Israeli leaders have so far refused international calls to stop the war on the densely populated, starved and besieged coastal strip.

On Monday, Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert rebuffed pleas by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and a European delegation to call a temporary halt to war to head off a deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

On Saturday, the U.S. blocked an effort by the UN Security Council to issue a statement calling for a ceasefire.

UN humanitarian chief John Holmes has called the Gaza strife an "increasingly alarming" humanitarian crisis. He said Gaza is running low on clean water, power, food, medicine and other supplies since Israel began its offensive.

The Israeli army is pounding Gaza from the air, land, and sea.

200 Woolworths stores shut for last time

This Woolworths store in Stroud, Gloucestershire was rammed with hundreds of bargain-hunting shoppers on its last day of trading

British shoppers bade a final farewell to Woolworths today as the company's remaining 200 stores closed for the last time.

Most outlets had already shut down with many of the 807 shops ending trading before the New Year.

Another 200 stores opened for the final time on Saturday after a one-day reprieve by the High Street chain's administrator Deloitte.

Woolworths, a family favourite on the high street for 100 years, went into administration in November with debts of £385million.

Staff close the shutters for the last time at Woolworths in Harold Hill, Essex

The stores have been closing in stages through late December after selling off stock as well as fixtures and fittings at discount prices.

The last 200 shops were expected to cease trading on Monday but Deloitte extended the deadline by a day to allow remaining stock to be sold.

Woolworths
Shoppers in Stroud make the most of last-minute bargains

The chain - whose first British store was opened by American FW Woolworth in Liverpool in 1909 - is the most high-profile UK High Street casualty of the economic downturn, leaving 27,000 workers facing redundancy.

It ran into trouble this year after struggling with huge debts, and its problems were compounded when it was forced to pay cash for goods after credit insurers were no longer prepared to cover its suppliers.

Yesterday fans of the store showed up in large numbers to lament the passing of the store - and pick off the last of the bargains.

Breeze Cafe

First 2009 gathering with Winnie and LeePY in Breeze Cafe on 1st Jan.

The outlook of cafe. Looks like Xmas deco.

A big screen for outdoor seats. Some of the days there have live band performance but the day we went don't have.

Indoor deco. There have sofa seats and floor seats. Customer can play card games, chess and trivia games here.

While waiting LeePY , both hungry Winnie and I already order Chicken Chop . Mine is in mushroom sauce then the other one is bombay sauce.

Hot Honey Lemon Tea , each of us drink two cups. It is nicer than the honey lemon tea in Kopitiam. Good to recommend this drink to others.
